TaylorMade r7 Limited £149 new AmericanGolf UK |
The R7 Quad was Taylor Made’s first ever driver which featured Movable Weight Technology. This enable players to use small weights to change the clubhead’s center of gravity and, along with it, the direction of the ball for added distance and better accuracy.
The R7 Quad was superseded by the R7 425, R7 460 and R7 SuperQuad; with each new model using increasingly improved Movable Weight Technology. These Taylor Made golf drivers are what gave the company its name among tour professionals and weekend players.
The R7 Limited continues the R7 tradition of improved Movable Weight Technology and is the company’s best driver featuring this technology to date. The Movable Weight Technology has been simplied and club has a noticeably "triangle" shaped head, which is a new shape for a TaylorMade driver.
This golf club is aimed at those players the company calls ‘technicians’. That is, players who like the ability to fine tune their golf drivers to make adjustments for their swing, weather or course to promote better and more accurate shots.
The R7 Limited differs from the other Taylor Made golf club drivers. Compared to the R7 SuperQuad, the R7 Limited has a greater side-to-side trajectory change of 35 yards compared to 28 yards. It also does this with only three weights (1 x 16 grams, 2 x 1 grams) versus four for the SuperQuad. While the SuperQuad and CGB Max drivers are both draw-biased, the Limited is neutral.
The R7 Limited’s clubhead is also a longer than the SuperQuad. This ensures a center of gravity which is located right at the back of the clubface which makes striking the ball high and long easier. Like all Taylor Made drivers it also utilizes the Inverted Cone Technology which ensures that even off-center strike travel a far distance.
The clubhead itself is 440cc and has a fast, triangle shape for added confidence and appeal.
Using the weights to change the trajectory of the golf balls is simple and easy. For drives that move to the right, the player moves the heavy 16 gram weight to the club’s toe. For shots that move left, the weight is fitted to the heel. And for straight drives the weight is place in the center.
To make these changes a wrench is used which is included with the club.
The golf driver’s shaft is a Matrix XCon 5.5 MOI which is designed to work specifically for the demands of this club. This ensures there is less twisting at the moment of impact for off-center hits and that energy is transferred to the ball even with shots from the toe or heel of the club. The shaft flexes include S, R and M.
Lofts are 8.5, 9.5, 10.5 and 11.5 degrees. Versions are available in men’s left-handed (9.5 and 10.5 degrees).
The Company Says:
"The r7 Limited is targeted at r7 driver users, whom we refer to as 'technicians' – players who like having the ability to adjust their equipment to promote and improve the quality of their shots." - Tom Olsavsky at TaylorMade.
What Other Say:
“The smaller 440cc head offers excellent levels of control. It produced a consistently strong flight that coped well in windy conditions.” – Golf Monthly
"It's a great driver. Other attempts at a triangle shape have looked irregular and unbalanced, but not this one." – Golf Digest
“A welcome return to simplicity… A definite contender for the bag.” – Today’s Golfer
