HiBore XL Tour
by Cleveland

The HiBore XL golf driver is the next step from the original HiBore that was released in 2006. The HiBore features Driver Distance Geometry which enlarges the sweetspot on the club. The HiBore XL is a much bigger, longer and straighter version of the previous.

The HiBore XL is engineered to minimize criticisms of the original model – that is, lack of stability with the clubhead.

You can read more about the HiBore XL here.

The Tour version of the HiBore XL differs from the standard by having a 3 degree open face angle, 1 degree flatter lie angle than the standard XL and neutral internal weighting to work the ball more easily. It comes in lofts of 8.5, 9.5 and 10.5.

HiBore XL
by Cleveland

The original HiBore was introduced in 2006 and was the first driver to utilize the Driver Distance Geometry which revolutionized driver head shapes. This technology has been improved with the new HiBore XL driver to produce a club which is bigger, longer and straighter than the original version.

The Cleveland HiBore XL was a best selling golf driver within months of its release and following three wins on the 2007 PGA Tour - Vijay Singh at both Mercedes Benz Championship and Arnold Palmer Invitational; Boo Weekley at the Verizon Heritage.

Video Review:

The HiBore XL is engineered to minimize criticisms of the original model – that is, lack of stability with the clubhead.

Driver Distance Geometry drops down the crown to lower the center of gravity and produce the only face-centered sweet spot in the sport of golf. This aligned sweet spot promotes a higher launch angle and lower spin rate without the loss of ball speed that can be seen with other drivers.

The effect of the Driver Distance Geometry is similar to how the highest jump is produced from the center of a trampoline. For golf drivers the greatest spring effect comes from the geometric center of the face. This effect is maximized by aligning the sweet spot with the geometric center of the clubface.

The HiBore XL improves the Driver Distance Geometry with Full-Face Performance technology. The larger clubface has enabled a bigger sweet spot and 15% more MOI when compared to the original HiBore. The increase in MOI means that the HiBore XL is more resistance to the clubhead twisting on mis-hits for more stability and forgiveness.

The Cleveland Hibore XL is a nice looking club with a swoop back and black pearl finish. The body is constructed from an aerospace grade titanium alloy.

The clubhead is a 460 cc size. Two shafts are available: Fujikura HiBORE XL Gold (Standard Trajectory) with A, R or S flexes; or – for more skilled players - a Fujikura HiBORE XL Red (Tour Trajectory) with R, S and X flexes.

The lofts are 8.5, 9.5, 10.5, 11.5 and 16 degrees. A Tour version for more skillful players is also available.

I-Mix
by Callaway

The new Callaway I-Mix system is the latest in golf driver customization. This new type of technology has been allowed by the recent change to club adjustability regulations by the governing bodies, the US Golf Association and Royal & Ancient. It is inspired by the ability of tour professionals to constantly adjust their drivers every time they play.

This is how the system works. Players choose a clubhead from the FT-I and FT-5 range and then select from a variety of shafts from Aldila, Fujikura, and Mitsubishi Rayon. The player then attaches the clubhead to the shaft using the I-Mix system and starts to play. Over 70 shafts are available, leading to a staggering 1,600 shaft-head combinations.

Video Review:

The Callaway I-Mix system gives golf players the same level of customization and tweaking that Tour professionals have because everyone’s swing and course conditions are different day to day. Is the course wet? Use a clubhead with a higher degree of loft for more distance over the wet grass. Narrow fairways? You’ll need control so use a heavier shaft. The possibilities are endless.

Using the Opti-Fit Weighting technology, the FT-i clubheads are available with a draw or neutral waiting with lofts of 9, 10 and 11 degrees. The FT-i Tour clubheads have a Low Center of Gravity version with draw or neutral weightings, and lofts of 9.5 and 10.5 degrees.

The FT-5 and FT-5 Tour clubheads also utilize the Opti-Fit Weighting with draw or neutral weightings. The lofts for the standard FT-5 head are 9 and 10 degrees, while the Tour head has lofts of 8.5 and 9.5 degrees.

In April 2008, Phil Mickelson used the I-Mix interchangeable driver system at the Masters. Ernie Els also used the I-MIX system at the Dubai Desert Classic for last two rounds.

......................................................................................................................

The Callaway FT-iQ is the next iteration of the FT-i range of golf drivers and the company markets it as the “smart driver”. It is the result of a multi-year, multi-million dollar program by Callaway. This driver is engineered to do one thing - straight distance. Pick a target and swing away.

The previous FT-i range was criticized for its lack distance. With the FT-iQ, improvements have been made across the board to produce a very long and very straight golf driver. The whole purpose of this driver is long bombs straight down the middle of the fairway because distance is nothing without accuracy. The FT-iQ is 35% straighter than the FT-i.

Video Review:

The Callaway FT-iQ’s 460 cc clubhead has been inspired by the technology found in Stealth Bombers and Formula 1 race cars. The shape is designed to be more aerodynamic and certainly makes it one of the best looking square drivers around.

The seek shape of the clubhead increases the moment of inertia (MOI) for fantastic accuracy. The Hyperbolic Face Technology means that the face is designed for high ball speed all across the face for more distance, even on off center hits.

Fusion Technology denotes that the clubhead is constructed from carbon composite with a titanium clubface – making it much lighter than traditional titanium drivers for extra club speed. The center of gravity is strategically placed in the correct position for stability with off-center hits and a straight trajectory. In fact, the center of gravity is twice as low than the FT-i.

The turbocharged titanium face is thick in the center and thinner at the edges. This construction delivers consistent ball speed across the face so misses carry nearly as far as center hits.

The weight is strategically placed in the rear corners of the club to promote a draw, which reduces fades and slices. The Tour version of the driver has a neutral weighting for more skilled or Tour players.

FT-iQ incorporates Complete Inertial Design, a Callaway Golf design principle that factors all of the club's characteristics - Moment of Inertia (MOI), Center of Gravity (CG), CG bias, face design, loft and lie - to optimize the club's overall performance. This ensures that one characteristic isn’t developed at the expense of the others, reducing overall performance.

The shaft is a Mitsubishi Rayon Fubuki. The standard model features 9, 10, 11, and 13 (HT) degree lofts. A Tour version is also available.

The Company Says:

"We set out to create our longest, straightest driver ever. We combine a titanium 'hyperbolic face cup' to increase ball speed, a sleek shape to reduce shot curvature and increase MOI, and strategic weight placement through our proprietary multi-material Fusion technology." - Dr. Alan Hocknell, VP of Innovation and Advanced Design

What Others Says:

"Very straight with a muted sound at impact. This could benefit a slicer, too, because it's almost impossible to curve to the right." – Golf Digest

“The Callaway FT-iQ is not a driver for those who see shaping the ball as a priority, but the majority of players will be impressed by the straight drives it helps to produce.” – Golf Monthly

"Great performance...you either love or hate the looks." – Today’s Golfer

FT-i Tour LCG
by Callaway

Incorporating feedback from Tour players, the FT-i Tour Low Center of Gravity (LCG) golf drivers are not only a mouthful to say but promote a trajectory which is preferred by more skilled players.

The 460 cc square clubhead positions the weight to the sides of the club to increase its moment of inertia, making it even more forgiving. The low center of gravity promotes less spin and higher flight for longer, straighter drives.

The clubhead utilizes a modified version of VFT Technology which enables the clubface to be thicker in the middle and thinner at the edges. This increases the amount of energy at impact which is imparted to the ball and forgiveness right across the face.

The OptiFit Weight systems allows the golfer to choose the bias of their club from either “draw” (to reduce a slice/fade, or promote a draw) or “neutral”.

The shaft is a Matrix OZIK X-Con and comes as either Stiff or X-Stiff. The lofts are 8.5 or 9.5 degrees.
