The Callaway FT-iQ is the next iteration of the FT-i range of golf drivers and the company markets it as the “smart driver”. It is the result of a multi-year, multi-million dollar program by Callaway. This driver is engineered to do one thing - straight distance. Pick a target and swing away.
The previous FT-i range was criticized for its lack distance. With the FT-iQ, improvements have been made across the board to produce a very long and very straight golf driver. The whole purpose of this driver is long bombs straight down the middle of the fairway because distance is nothing without accuracy. The FT-iQ is 35% straighter than the FT-i.

The Callaway FT-iQ’s 460 cc clubhead has been inspired by the technology found in Stealth Bombers and Formula 1 race cars. The shape is designed to be more aerodynamic and certainly makes it one of the best looking square drivers around.
The seek shape of the clubhead increases the moment of inertia (MOI) for fantastic accuracy. The Hyperbolic Face Technology means that the face is designed for high ball speed all across the face for more distance, even on off center hits.
Fusion Technology denotes that the clubhead is constructed from carbon composite with a titanium clubface – making it much lighter than traditional titanium drivers for extra club speed. The center of gravity is strategically placed in the correct position for stability with off-center hits and a straight trajectory. In fact, the center of gravity is twice as low than the FT-i.
The turbocharged titanium face is thick in the center and thinner at the edges. This construction delivers consistent ball speed across the face so misses carry nearly as far as center hits.
The weight is strategically placed in the rear corners of the club to promote a draw, which reduces fades and slices. The Tour version of the driver has a neutral weighting for more skilled or Tour players.
FT-iQ incorporates Complete Inertial Design, a Callaway Golf design principle that factors all of the club's characteristics - Moment of Inertia (MOI), Center of Gravity (CG), CG bias, face design, loft and lie - to optimize the club's overall performance. This ensures that one characteristic isn’t developed at the expense of the others, reducing overall performance.
The shaft is a Mitsubishi Rayon Fubuki. The standard model features 9, 10, 11, and 13 (HT) degree lofts. A Tour version is also available.
The Company Says:
"We set out to create our longest, straightest driver ever. We combine a titanium 'hyperbolic face cup' to increase ball speed, a sleek shape to reduce shot curvature and increase MOI, and strategic weight placement through our proprietary multi-material Fusion technology." - Dr. Alan Hocknell, VP of Innovation and Advanced Design
What Others Says:
"Very straight with a muted sound at impact. This could benefit a slicer, too, because it's almost impossible to curve to the right." – Golf Digest
“The Callaway FT-iQ is not a driver for those who see shaping the ball as a priority, but the majority of players will be impressed by the straight drives it helps to produce.” – Golf Monthly
"Great performance...you either love or hate the looks." – Today’s Golfer
